Troop 101 - History / Organization / Process & Proceedures / FAQ's
Troop Info
BSA Troop 101 is sponsored by the Westminster Presbyterian Church on Friendly Avenue and "generally" meets every Tuesday night at 7:30 PM in the church Fellowship Hall. Scouts from other troops and/or Cub Scouts are invited to drop-in for a visit at any time. The exact specific meeting schedule is established by the Leadership of the troop and is displayed and maintained on the "Calendar" of this website (login required to view). If you need specific meeting information or would like to call ahead, please contact out Scoutmaster by using the "Contact Us" form found on the main menu of this site.
Troop 101 is a fairly large troop and maintains a active membership of around 100 scouts at any point in time. This size organization provides a lot of opportunity for scouts to take part in activities and outings that are quite varied and sometimes not possible with organizations of fewer scouts. The troop operates a very active Outdoor Program that sponsors at least one major outdoor/camping activity a month during the "Scout Year". Each year the troop sends 50+ scouts to our local Council camp and generally sends a smaller group to a provisional or high adventure camp. Trips to the Philmont Scout Ranch every other year and The National or World Jamboree(s) are highly encouraged.
The Troop operates a highly organized "Advancement" program to teach the scouts the basic scout skills in the first year and then provide opportunities to earn the merit badges required for higher rank advancement. The troop attempts to operate under the BSA "Boy Lead" principles as much as is practically possible in order to teach, develop, and practice leadership development skills for the member scouts.
Joining the troop is easy, just contact the scoutmaster, or drop by a troop meeting. Annual BSA and Troop dues are $75 for the entire year.
If you need to contact the Troop 101 Scoutmaster, Bryan Sykes, just send an email to Scoutmaster@bsatroop101.org. This email address sends it to both his work and home email address. Please DO NOT send it to the old gmail address, as it is not being checked at all.
